Gardening for Mental Health

Gardening offers a therapeutic sanctuary for nurturing mental health and well-being. Engaging with nature in the garden provides a serene escape from the stresses of daily life, fostering a sense of peace and tranquility. The act of tending to plants, whether planting seeds, watering, or pruning, encourages mindfulness and cultivates a deeper connection with the present moment. This immersion in nature has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress while boosting mood and self-esteem. Furthermore, gardening provides a tangible sense of accomplishment as plants flourish under our care, instilling a profound sense of purpose and satisfaction. Whether it's the simple act of feeling soil between your fingers or witnessing the beauty of blooming flowers, gardening offers a therapeutic journey of growth, renewal, and healing for the mind and soul.

Why join our gardening group?

In our therapeutic gardening groups, led by a horticultural therapist with expertise in occupational therapy, we prioritize accessibility and inclusivity for individuals navigating mental health challenges. Our garden beds are thoughtfully designed at varying heights to accommodate different levels of mobility, ensuring everyone can actively engage in the gardening experience, whether seated or standing. We provide adapted tools to facilitate participation and modify activities to suit the unique needs of each participant. No previous gardening experience is required—just an open mind and a willingness to explore.

Join us weekly at The Happy Seed Company's community gardens for a rejuvenating session. A nominal fee of $15 per person per session covers refreshments and gentle guided horticultural activities, enriching both mind and spirit.
