GARDENING WITH A STROKE OR TBI

Gardening offers a myriad of benefits for individuals recovering from a stroke. Engaging in gardening activities promotes physical rehabilitation by encouraging gentle movement and exercise, aiding in the restoration of motor skills and coordination. The sensory stimulation provided by working with soil, plants, and flowers can also enhance cognitive function, memory retention, and overall mental well-being. Moreover, the therapeutic nature of gardening fosters a sense of purpose and accomplishment, boosting confidence and motivation during the recovery process. Ultimately, gardening provides stroke survivors with a nurturing environment where they can regain strength, independence, and joy as they cultivate new growth and resilience.

Why join our gardening group?

In our therapeutic gardening groups, led by a horticultural therapist with specialized knowledge in stroke recovery and occupational therapy, we place a strong emphasis on accessibility and support tailored for stroke patients. Our garden beds are meticulously crafted at various heights to accommodate individuals with diverse levels of mobility, ensuring that stroke survivors can actively participate in gardening activities, whether seated or standing. We offer adapted tools designed to assist stroke patients in their gardening endeavors and adjust activities to meet each individual's unique needs and abilities. No prior gardening experience is necessary—just a willingness to embrace the therapeutic benefits of nature.

Join us weekly at The Happy Seed Company's community gardens for a revitalizing session tailored to stroke recovery. A nominal fee of $15 per person per session covers refreshments and guided horticultural activities, fostering both physical and emotional well-being.
